An Army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion on a suspect device in north Dublin.

An Army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion on a suspect device in north Dublin.

The device, which was later declared an elaborate hoax, was found between two rubbish skips on Carnlough Road in Cabra at around 5am.

Residents were evacuated while the explosion was carried out.

Gardaí closed Carnlough Road at its junctions with the Navan Road and Annamoe Road following the discovery. It has since been re-opened.
