A polygraph lie-detector test privately commissioned by Congressman Gary Condit had "no investigative value", according to Washington DC police investigating the disappearance of intern Ms Chandra Levy, Patrick Smyth reports. The police chief, Mr Charles Ramsey, told the Washington Post that analysts were not able to match specific questions to the graphs which showed the congressman's reactions.

Analysts had "no way of telling with certainty the result of each question", Mr Ramsey said, and hinted that the police may wish to reinterview the congressman.
