Kinshasa - Pro-government forces killed 93 Rwandan soldiers in a clash in South Kivu province in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo earlier this month, state television said yesterday. It said the fleeing Rwandan troops, who support rebels in the country, then set fire to the village of Malembe, killing 41 Congolese civilians, mostly women, children and old people.

The report gave no indication of casualties among the pro-government Mai-Mai forces and could not be independently confirmed.
