A son of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrews, is to appear at Edinburgh Magistrates' Court on Thursday after being arrested for allegedly shouting an obscene word in a city-centre street.

Mr David Andrews (32) was arrested on Edinburgh's High Street on Sunday afternoon. The stand-up comedian and street performer, who goes under the stage name of David McSavage, is appearing in a one-man show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

On Sunday afternoon he, and other festival acts, were performing on the High Street to advertise their shows. Explaining why he had shouted "penis" through his loudspeaker, Mr Andrews said, "there was a scantily clad dance troupe to the right of me and so I had to do something to keep the audience". Members of the public, including families with young children, complained to police and Mr Andrews was arrested. He was released on bail in time to perform his show at 7 p.m.
