An underwater swim undertaken by a Co Clare man last month has just been confirmed as a world first by the Guinness Book of Recordsand also raised over €14,000 for the Share a Dream Foundation.

Civil Defence volunteer Christy Healy (40) completed the challenge on his second attempt, becoming the first man ever to undertake a 10km underwater swim/dive without surfacing.

He achieved this feat in the waters of Lough Derg.

The records and evidence collected by the appointed teams on the day were submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records Office at the end of October.

Mr Healy has received his confirmation certification from Guinness after those records were closely examined, adjudicated and confirmed.
