A search was underway in Co Clare early this morning for seven students who went missing while exploring a 14-kilometre long cave in Poulnagorm in Ballyvaughan.

The missing students, six men and one woman, who are believed to be from Dublin and Belfast, went exploring the cave around midday yesterday. The alarm was raised last night when they had not returned.

Local gardai and members of the Doolin rescue team were involved in the search. A Garda spokesman said early today that those searching expected to find the group and were not "unduly worried" about their safety.
