China `to discuss human rights'

PARIS - The Chinese Prime Minister, Mr Li Peng, said in a television interview broadcast yesterday that China was ready to discuss the vexed issue of human rights in his country but would not allow it to be used to interfere in its domestic affairs.

Mr Li said different countries had different concepts of human rights "but as a developing country, China must ensure its right to existence and the right to development of its people."
