Beijing - Scores of drug convicts have been executed at mass sentencing rallies in recent days. From Urumqi in remote north-western China to Beijing, newspapers ran tallies of the mostly male convicts paraded in stadiums before being taken away to execution grounds to get a bullet in the back of the head.
Chongqing, in south-western China, executed 17 drug traffickers, including four dealers from one family, on Monday. The Xinjiang Daily said that on June 23rd, eight convicts were taken to the killing grounds and shot. China metes out the death penalty to anyone convicted of trafficking 50 grams or more of heroin.
