A 23-month-old girl was killed today when a car collided with a fire engine on its way to the scene of another accident.
The girl's brother, aged three, and the childminder, who was driving the car, were hurt in the crash in Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh.
The girl's other brother - juts eight-weeks-old - and the childminder's 17-year-old daughter were uninjured.
Two fire officers were also hurt - though none are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
An eight-week-old boy, the girl's youngest brother - and the childminder's 17-year-old daughter, survived unscathed.
The car had been on its way from the children's home at Ballyconnell - just across the Border in Co Cavan - when the accident happened.
Both police and the Fire Service launched investigations into the cause of the accident which left the fire engine on its side in the road and the car crumpled on the grass verge.
The girl's father was met at the Border by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and taken to Enniskillen to break the news to his wife at her workplace.
