Musicals often have an unusual gestation period, and Creatures, now having its world premiere at Andrews Lane Theatre, is no exception. It had a trial version in New York in 1998, which elicited some encouraging words from a publication called Back Stage. Melodic and catchy tunes, sophisticated lyrics and startling visual images were among the compliments offered. Now it has arrived on, as it were, the open Dublin stage, inviting one and all to appreciate and enjoy its accomplishments. The dramatis personae include a cheeky devil, a deadly spider, a werewolf, a vampire and others cut from similar cloth. They all have problems, it seems, of human dimensions for audiences to empathise with. It is tackled by a cast of international talents - American, French and Irish - who bring excellent track records to their latest challenge.
