A 27 year old man is expected to appear in court in Belfast this morning on charges in connection with last Monday's rocket attack at the courts of justice. Preliminary charges of conspiracy to murder were brought against the man at an RUC station last night.

Meanwhile, as the RUC continued to question five other people in connection with serious crime in Belfast, the city was again paralysed yesterday by bomb alerts.

Following coded bomb warnings, several city centre streets were sealed off while the security forces investigated suspicious vehicles. Bomb warnings also caused traffic chaos in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

A number of controlled explosions were carried out.

The Alliance Party deputy leader, Mr Seamus Close, condemned those responsible for the bomb scares. He said they had cynically caused panic among parents trying to pick up children from school, had destroyed business and caused widespread delays.

The RUC continued to investigate an arson attack on an elderly woman's home in Donaghcloney, Co Down, early yesterday. Police believe the petrol bomb used was intended for another house. A 21 year old Belfast man was shot in the legs on Thursday in an apparent so called punishment shooting. He was found on Glandore Avenue near the Antrim Road.
