Gardaí investigating a serious assault on a man in Cork city centre over the bank holiday weekend have begun examining CCTV footage, .
The 26-year-old man from Midleton sustained serious head injuries when he was assaulted on the Grand Parade at about 2.20am on Monday.
The man was brought to the Mercy University Hospital but later transferred to Cork University Hospital where he is in a critical condition.
A large number of people were in the area at the time and gardaí have begun taking witness statements.
They have asked anyone who can help them with their inquiries to contact Anglesea Street Garda station on 021-452 2000.
