A four-year-old girl was killed in a multiple vehicle collision when she was returning home from a family holiday, a court heard yesterday.

Mr Vincent Ryan, Swords, Co Dublin, pleaded not guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to dangerous driving causing the death of Jade O'Reilly, Skerries, Co Dublin, on July 22nd, 2002, at Adare, Co Limerick.

A jury sworn in yesterday morning was later discharged after Judge Carroll Moran informed them that there were certain matters which had to be further investigated.

Outlining the case against the accused, Mr Michael Collins said it would be alleged that Mr Ryan was driving a lorry which struck the rear of a Vauxhall Astra causing it to collide with two other vehicles in front of it.
