The National Youth Council of Ireland said it hopes this year's Leaving Certificate results, out tomorrow, will be "the last under the current points system". The council hoped that the Points Commission's report, due in the autumn, would result in a more "student friendly" system. NYCI vice-president Mr Malcolm Byrne said "a standardised method of all-year assessment should be developed.
The current system is not fully effective in matching the right person to the right course. Suitability should become a key criterion for entry to third-level courses through the development of an interview system for some courses".
