Health boards were urged yesterday to provide adequate eyecare cover for teenagers, especially in households where a medical card has been issued.

The Association of Optometrists Ireland called on the Department of Health and all health boards to extend cover to, the 12-16 age group for eye examination and assessment through the "choice of optician" scheme. The present scheme covers children over 16.
