HIGHLY PAID officials in the Department of Justice seemed at times to mismanage the system in a most appalling way, Mr Pat Magner (Lab) said when he called for a debate on the Department.
Mr Magner accused the Opposition of playing games over the release and re arrest of high security prisoners on Wednesday due to an administrative error. Everyone knew that if Mrs Maire Geoghegan Quinn had been in charge of the prison system, precisely the same thing would have happened, he asserted.
In all the debates on crime, there had never been one specifically on the Department of Justice itself. Such a debate was needed, because that Department had not covered itself in glory.
