Jackie Cahill has been re-elected as president of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers' Association after a vote of the 99-member National Council held today at Limerick's Carlton Castletroy Park Hotel.
Mr Cahill, a Tipperary dairy farmer, defeated his immediate predecessor, Pat O'Rourke, from Co Longford, by a margin of 54 votes to 45.
The 47-year old farmer from Thurles will now serve an additional two years as president giving him the maximum term permissible of six years, and his victory will be seen as vindication of the association's determined attacks on Government and Commission's dairy policy, according to an ICMSA statement.
