Three food businesses were ordered to close for breaches of food safety legislation last month.

Three food businesses were ordered to close for breaches of food safety legislation last month.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said closure orders were served on Lir Café Bar, Market Square, Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon; Make Cents supermarket’s hot and cold deli counters, Gurteen Cross, Co Sligo and on Unit 5D Station Road Business Park (bakery – flour products only), Clondalkin Industrial Estate, Dublin 22.

A prohibition Order was served on Polonez supermarket, Harmony Hill, Co Sligo.

The authority said a successful prosecution was also carried out by the HSE Dublin North East on the Green Chilli Restaurant, 46 Manor Street, Dublin 7.

FSAI chief executive Prof Alan Reilly said it was unfair to those food businesses with excellent food safety and hygiene practices that “a small number of premises do not comply with the law and ultimately, potentially, put the public’s health at risk”.

“We would stress to food businesses the importance of maintaining the highest standards of food safety hygiene practices at all times and more especially in warmer weather, when food bugs can multiple more rapidly.”
