Osama bin Laden is wanted 'Dead or alive' by the US, says President George W Bush.

President Bush says he remembers 'Old West' posters of criminals when he was a boy.

He then nodded and added that the US will bring bin Laden to justice.

Asked directly if he wanted the US terror attack suspect 'Dead or alive' he replied: "I just remember the old wanted posters, they said, 'Wanted dead or alive....we want him brought to justice, that's what we want."

President Bush gave a speech after emerging from a council of war meeting with advisors at the Pentagon.

He said the US is ready to defend freedom at any cost.

And he warned that the US will have to make sacrifices to "smoke out" those responsible.

Speaking about mobilisation of troops he said he realises it affects the lives of thousands of Americans.

He said around 35,000 people have been called up and they will serve in a number of essential roles, including logistics and maintaining air defences.
