A former station manager at Mid-West Radio has denied he rejected the services of a rights commissioner to investigate his grievance with the station in 1994 because he knew he would be "out on his ear".
The suggestions were put to Mr Henry McGlade (49) by Mr Henry Bourke SC, for the station, during cross-examination. Mr McGlade has taken an action against County Mayo Radio Ltd, trading as Mid-West Radio, for damages for alleged harassment and bullying by the station chief executive, Mr Paul Claffey. The defendants deny this.
Mr McGlade, of Cillora Cottage, Breaffy, Castlebar, Co Mayo, said the reason he was against a rights commissioner was because of the delay involved in securing one. At the time the suggestion was made to him in 1994, he was suspended from work from February to May.
He denied that when he returned to work his only response to any conversation from Mr Claffey was a grunt. He claimed there was a lot of bullying at the station.
The hearing continues.
