Switzerland's Andre Bucher won the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Grand Prix final 800 metres this morning to claim the men's overall title by one point.

Bucher, the 800m world champion, was equal second on points for the IAAF Overall Grand Prix Award, worth US$100,000, with American long jumper Kevin Dilworth on 78 points before the IAAF Grand Prix Final in Melbourne.

American 110 metres hurdles world champion Allen Johnson was the leader going into the final with 80 points but was a shock second placing behind Cuban Anier Garcia in the hurdles.

Johnson earned 21 points to finish on 101 while Bucher's 24 points gave him 102.

World record holder and world champion, Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj, won the 1500m but his time of three minutes 31.25 seconds was well outside his own world record of 3:26.00 which he needed to break to earn enough points for the overall title.

El Guerrouj was third with 100 points on a countback from Kenya's world champion Paul Bitok who won the 3000m final to also finish on 100 points.

Dilworth was seventh in the long jump and earned only six points to finish on 84 points in eighth place overall.
