Two brothers are recovering in hospital after being injured in a paramilitary style ‘punishment beating’ in County Down overnight.

Four masked men broke down the door of brothers’ home at Brookside terrace in Ballinahinch around 1.45 a.m.

One of the brothers was attacked with a sledgehammer as he slept while the other was attacked by three of the gang and beaten around his face, body and legs.

Both men were taken to hospital where their injuries are not being described as serious.
