British Airways says it carried 9.2 per cent fewer passengers in August compared with the same month last year.
The group's scheduled service passengers numbered 3,438,000 last month compared with 3,787,000 in August 2001.
But passenger numbers on its North and South American routes - badly hit after September 11th - were only 6.9 per cent down at 614,000.
The big dip was on Africa and the Middle East sector which fell 17.5 per cent, with Asia Pacific down 13.9 per cent and UK and Europe down 8.6 per cent.
