London - Heavy rains forecast for the weekend are likely to swell Britain's worst floods for 50 years and could force more families out of their homes, officials warned yesterday. "Rivers both in the north-east and south-east (of England) are in a critical situation, with the strong possibility that some people may have their homes flooded this weekend," a Meteorological Office spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the main east-coast rail line was fully reopened earlier yesterday for the first time since a fatal rail accident at Hatfield, north of London, last month in which four people died.
