LONDON - The ozone layer over Britain has this week suffered the worst damage ever recorded due to a combination of pollution and intense cold at high altitude, a London newspaper says today.

The Independent says measurements taken in the Shetland Islands off the north Scottish coast and in Cornwall in southwestern England showed the lowest levels of ozone ever recorded over Britain.
