The former editor of the Examiner newspaper, Mr Brian Looney, has resigned as director of policy communications with Fine Gael after only six weeks. Mr Looney declined to comment on his decision last night other than to say he had given it careful thought over a number of weeks and the decision had been taken for "personal reasons".
