The Unionist controlled Ards Borough Council in Co Down has rejected a motion to introduce a three month boycott of contact with SDLP controlled councils in the region.

UUP councillor, Mr David McNarry, expressed anger with some party colleagues after they voted against his motion proposing the ban. He said he would have to reconsider his position as a member of the UUP.

Mr McNarry sought the boycott to counter moves by SDLP councillors in Derry to strip Mr Richard Dallas of his mayoral privileges over his participation in a road block during the Drumcree stand off.
