The Drawing Room Opera Company which made its debut at the Grey Door restaurant in Dublin on March 17th seems to have found a winning formula. This must be the case when people are offering £68 a head for an evening of food, wine and opera.

In association with the company which likes to think it can "recapture the spirit of a bygone age," Flemings restaurant in Cork is hosting an evening of food and opera. The restaurant, in Silvergrange House, is a perfect location for such an event.

The restaurateur, Michael Fleming, says the evening, scheduled for June 13th, is already a sell-out. The concept is that light opera accompanied by fine food and wine has got to go down well. The evenings are aimed at the business and corporate sector but attract a wider audience as well.

Two mezzo sopranos, Miriam Blennerhasset and Liz Ryan, will perform, as will Linda Glen, soprano, and Owen Lynch, baritone. The music will include Maritana, La Traviata and The Marriage of Figaro. And because the Tour de France will have a Cork stage this summer there will be a repeat performance when that huge event rolls into town.
