The Commission of Inquiry into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings of 1974 has been given another month to complete its report.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern agreed to a request from sole member of the commission Patrick MacEntee for another extension. The final report is now due on March 13th.

The terms of reference of the commission involve an inquiry into why the Garda investigation into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings was wound down in 1974 and why gardaí did not follow up a number of leads, which included information relating to a man who stayed in the Four Courts Hotel between May 15th and May 17th, and his contacts with the UVF; and information concerning a British army corporal allegedly sighted in Dublin at the time of the bombings.

Mr MacEntee is also making inquiries into missing documentation.
