The explosion shattered some windows and damaged a gate and walls of the building in the Beyoglu district.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, which came only hours after England beat Turkey 2-0 in a Euro 2004 qualifier.

Anti-British and US sentiment also runs high in the predominantly Muslim country because of coalition attacks on Iraq.
