The Jim Bolger-trained colt - appropriately enough a son of the Derby winner whose name the race carries - was keen early on but took charge from long-time leader Vorteeva just over a furlong out and looked set fair for an emphatic
success.
But the 6-4 favourite was all out at the line to hold the strong challenge of the Aidan O'Brien second-string Eagle Mountain (16-1) by a head.
Bolger said: "This is the best colt I've had. He has everything: looks, pedigree and performance. I was going to run him next in the National Stakes but I'd have to think about that now as I don't really want to run him again over seven furlongs.
"He'll be a middle-distance horse next year."
The Deborah Evans-trained Invincible Force secured a fourth victory in five starts with a facile success in the 300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Sale Stakes. The English handler looks to have unearthed a really progressive youngster on the evidence of this ready two-and-a-half-length victory from 11-2 favourite Southandwest.
Despite the gelding's unfavourable high draw, Fran Berry always had his partner handy before stretching clear from his rivals in the closing stages.
The 9-1 chance never looked like losing from then on and strode impressively over the line with quite a bit in hand.
Stan Moore's Southandwest lost nothing in defeat and stuck to his guns in good style, while the David Evans-trained Bazroy landed third place at odds of 33-1 to complete a one-two-three for British raiders.
Evans' assistant trainer Paul Green said: "This horse was bought for this race and he missed a couple of good race recently to run here. He was entered in the Group Three here on Sunday but we bottled it and took him out.
"We'll look for a Listed race next."
O'Brien enjoyed better fortune earlier on the card when Tusculum booked his ticket to the Ladbrokes St Leger with victory under Seamus Heffernan in the Listed Cill Dara Security Ballycullen Stakes.
