The body of a young man was recovered from the River Fergus in Ennis, Co Clare, last night following a day-long search.
It was prompted by a report that a teenager had gone swimming in the early hours of the morning and had not returned.
The alarm was raised at 1am by friends of the youth who became concerned when their companion failed to return to the river bank.
Gardaí say they are treating the matter as an accident.
