The man who drowned in the Little Brosna river near Birr, Co Offaly, on Friday has been named as Mr Timothy Connors (78) of Derrinduff, Birr.
His body was recovered by members of the Athlone SubAqua Club on Saturday, after his fishing rod and net were found on the river bank. The results of the post mortem have not yet been released, but a Garda spokesman said his death "bore all the signs of a tragic accident".
