THE College of Consultors of the Diocese of Cork and Ross last night elected Bishop John Buckley, the auxiliary bishop of the diocese, as diocesan administrator. He succeeds Dr Michael Murphy, who died on Monday. Dr Buckley will hold office until a Holy See nominees is ordained.

The funeral of Bishop Murphy will take place in the North Cathedral tomorrow. He was chairman of Trocaire, and the Third World development organisation paid tribute to him yesterday as a strong supporter of its work.
