Former pop singer and fashion designer Victoria Beckham has inadvertently caused the Irish Hospice Foundation’s website to crash.

In a tweet to Bono and Ali Hewson, the famous footballer's wife said: “Thanks Bono and Ali for Harper’s supercool Peter and the Wolf book!”

The tweet included appeal for donations and a link to the Irish Hospice Foundation’s website. Within hours of the tweet the website was overwhelmed with traffic from some of Beckham’s 2.5 million followers.

This morning, Caroline Lynch of the Irish Hospice Foundation confirmed: “Our website actually crashed because of the traffic.” The site is now back online.

“We have been in touch with Victoria this morning and tweeted the message: “We hope you and David enjoy reading it to Harper,” she added.

In 2003 Bono and Gavin Friday collaborated to produce a new version of Peter and the Wolf in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation.

The book was illustrated by Bono with the help of his daughters Jordan and Eve. An accompanying CD featuring the musical score by The

Friday-Seezer Ensemble, is narrated by Gavin Friday.
