The chief executive, Ms Barbara Nugent, joined the Sunday Business Post in 1992 following a brief period running a marketing and communications company. However, it was while she was managing director of the Sunday Tribune that she came to prominence in the media.

She had a stormy relationship with the Tribune's then editor and chief executive, Mr Vincent Browne. She resigned twice from the newspaper.

When she first resigned in 1988 she said in a letter to staff that there were irrevocable differences between her and Mr Browne. Within two weeks she returned - reporting to the board, rather than to Mr Browne.

After resigning again in 1991, she established Domino, a marketing and communications company, which operated as a subsidiary McConnells Advertising.

She was appointed chief executive of the Sunday Business Post in August 1992, replacing an American, Ms Jan Tolson.

A year later she oversaw the restructuring of the shareholding which ended the majority control enjoyed by the French media company Euroexpansion since 1991, when it increased its holding by 14 per cent, bought from the former managing director, Mr Frank Fitzgibbon. That restructuring gave the management group, which included Ms Nugent, a 50 per cent stake and control of the company.

Before working for the Sunday Tribune, Ms Nugent was involved with Image magazine. She was formerly a teacher at Willow Park School, Blackrock, Co Dublin. She is married with three sons.
