The main bank workers' union, the IBOA, has said it will develop new policies to ensure the safety of its members following a number of so-called tiger kidnappings.
The IBOA described as "extremely constructive" a meeting with the Garda Commissioner today to discuss its concerns over the safety of its members.
"This has led to many staff going to work in fear for their health and safety and that of their families," he said.
" We had an extremely constructive meeting with the Commissioner and we are re-assured by the comments of the Commissioner that the top priority should always be the safety and well-being of staff and their families."
Mr Broderick said the union believed there was an "urgent need" to address the issue and called for further dialogue involving the Garda, Department of Justice, banking and security industry to monitor developments.
"IBOA believes we all need to be imaginative and examine practical measures that will enhance the security and safety of staff and their families," he said.
" It is our conviction that the best way to minimise the risk to staff and their families is for us all to work together in the interests of ensuring staff can go to work without the fear that they or their family will be kidnapped in such a manner.
"We have agreed with the Commissioner to continue prioritising safety and security and will be developing new policies for our members in this regard to be discussed at our forthcoming Biennial Conference in April."
