The actor Liam Neeson has appealed for more support for UNICEF's immunisation programme.

Mr Neeson, the special patron for UNICEF in Ireland, says diseases such as TB, whooping cough, measles, diphtheria, tetanus and polio claim 35,000 children's lives each week. Many who survive the diseases are left disabled for life. The £9.40 it cost to immunise a child was a small price to put on a life, Mr Neeson said.
