London - The author of the controversial book documenting the life of Mary Bell yesterday insisted that the child killer had earned the money she was given to co-operate with her.

Gitta Sereny stressed that she did not think there would be such a furore over the payment. She conceded, however, that she was aware that Mary Bell's daughter was likely to find out about her mother's real identity following the publication of the book, Cries Unheard.
