A mudslide triggered by heavy rains has hit a hot springs resort at a village in Indonesia's East Java killing at least 21 people, police say.

The official Antara news agency, citing a resort official, put the death toll at 30 and said the number would likely rise as others were trapped beneath mud and debris.

Antara said many of the victims were children aged four to 10 who were bathing in the resort's hotsprings and waterfalls.

Land and mudslides are common in Indonesia during the rainy season which usually runs from October to April.
