At least 15 people were killed in Indonesia today when a passenger train hit a minibus carrying wedding guests.

Eight others were injured in the accident at a crossing near the central Javanese town of Sragen, said a local railway official.

No train passengers were killed in the accident, the latest in a series of bloody crashes on Indonesia's underfunded rail network.

Police were questioning the guard on duty at the crossing, state news agency Antara reported. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Those killed were on their way to a wedding when the accident occurred, the report said.

Fatal crashes are common on Indonesian railways. Carriages are often overcrowded, and signal systems often break down.
