Colombian striker Faustino Asprilla will be introduced to the Darlington crowd before the Division Three club’s clash with Carlisle at Feethams tonight.

The former Newcastle ace is yet to receive a work permit but the Quakers' were confident their application would be successful - even though he does not meet the current criteria, having appeared in only five of his country's last 14 competitive matches.

Club captain Craig Liddle believes the 32-year-old will give the club a massive lift if he is able to complete his move.

He said: "If we do pull it off I think it will be great for the supporters more than anybody else and I'm looking forward to playing with him if we do sign him.

"I think it will give the whole club a lift but it will be interesting to see how well he does in Division Three.

Everyone knows he is a quality player but it could take him time to adapt to this level.

"There will be players out there who will go out to hurt him, just to make a name for themselves, but he's probably had that most of his career so he'll be used to that," he said.
