Armed raid on Louth bank

Gardaí in Co Louth are seeking an armed gang after a raid on the Bank of Ireland in Main Street, Dunleer this afternoon.

Gardaí in Co Louth are seeking an armed gang after a raid on the Bank of Ireland in Main Street, Dunleer this afternoon.

Shortly after 4pm two masked men entered the rear of the bank and threatened staff with what’s believed to be a handgun.

The men made their escape with an undisclosed amount of cash through the front of the bank in a waiting red Audi Estate with an English registration.

The car, driven by a third man, left in the direction of Clogherhead and was subsequently found burnt out at Dillonstown near Clogherhead.

A garda spokesman said the men are believed to have arrived at the bank in a wine-coloured Toyota Carina E to the rear of the bank to the raid.

No shots fired and no-one was injured during the raid.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have seen the wine-coloured Carina E or the red Audi parked between 3.45pm and 4.10pm to contact them.
