Buenos Aires - Argentines angry at the government's drastic economic austerity measures gathered across the country yesterday, ahead of a mass Buenos Aires rally culminating a two-day nationwide protest.

Protesters are angry at President Fernando De la Rua's austerity plan, which includes some $1.5 billion dollars in public spending cuts aimed at balancing Argentina's budget.

The plan includes a 13 per cent cut in pay for bureaucrats and in benefits for retirees.
