London - Lord Archer was yesterday committed to stand trial at the Old Bailey accused of asking a friend to lie for him during a libel case.

The millionaire author faces five charges, two of perjury, two of perverting the course of justice and one of using a false instrument, relating to diaries used in his libel trial against the Daily Star in 1987.

He will appear at the Old Bailey on December 12th although trial is expected to start at a later date.
