United Nations - The 189-member General Assembly is expected to officially extend the term of Mrs Mary Robinson as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for another year.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has proposed that Mrs Robinson, who resigned her post in March and then changed her mind two weeks later, stay on the job until September 2002, a year after her current four-year term expires. "The secretary-general trusts that the General Assembly will approve this extension," a spokesman said.
