A former RUC constable yesterday failed in his last chance to overturn his triple murder conviction

A former RUC constable yesterday failed in his last chance to overturn his triple murder conviction. The Appeal Court in Belfast refused to grant leave to take his case to the House of Lords.

John Torney (42) was convicted last year of murdering his wife, Linda (33), son John (13) and daughter Emma (11) in September 1994 at their home at Lomond Heights, Cookstown.

Torney had claimed his son had shot his mother and sister before turning his father's RUC revolver on himself.
