Irish manufacturing prices improved slightly in September, increasing by 0.9 per cent in a year when prices have fallen by 0.2 per cent compared with 2004, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office today.

In September the index for export sales increased by 0.9 per cent while the index for home sales increased by 0.2 per cent. Compared with September 2004, export sales have fallen 0.8 per cent and home sales have risen by 2.3 per cent.

The largest movers were increases in the cost of medical, precision and optical instruments, which showed an increase of 12.5 per cent last month.

The cost of basic chemicals rose 0.7 per cent. Prices for electrical machinery dropped by 0.3 per cent over the same period.
