Khartoum - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrews, who is visiting Sudan, has described the famine in southern Sudan as "the vision of hell".
At the end of a two-day visit to Sudan, Mr Andrews said the horrors he saw in southern Sudan were "unforgettable".
"We saw dead children, we saw women dying. It is like the vision of hell," he said yesterday.
Mr Andrews appealed to both the Khartoum government and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) to respond to the people's suffering and end fighting in southern Sudan. Ireland is providing over £2 million in relief and humanitarian assistance to Sudan this year.
