London - Conservative Party chairman Mr Michael Ancram is expected to become the fourth candidate for the Tory leadership to throw his hat into the ring, it emerged last night.
Mr Ancram was keeping tight-lipped about his plans, but sources close to his campaign made clear that he would announce his candidacy this afternoon and stand on a platform of traditional Tory values.
The announcement is expected just hours after shadow chancellor Mr Michael Portillo officially launches his campaign. Shadow home secretary Ms Ann Widdecombe said: "I can't comment on whether Mr Ancram is going to stand, but certainly, if he declares, I will support him."
